A Message from Demetress Belk, Founder & Executive Director

"Every girl is a pearl. She is gifted to the world on purpose with a purpose to fulfill — whether she realizes it or not."

When I was a teenager, I had the talent, and I had the drive. I even achieved a level of early success. But what I was missing was confidence. I was taught the do’s and don’ts of life, but I lacked a true understanding of my own value, self-worth, and how to live out my value on a daily basis. Because of that, I made choices that moved me further away from my goals. It wasn't until I reached out for help at 30 years old that I finally learned how to set healthy boundaries and develop personal standards, guided by older women who invested in my growth.

I built Emerald Excellence, LLC because I wished a program like these existed when I was growing up. I wanted to be part of something that taught me to embrace my unique qualities without compromising my values.

Today, after rigorously testing our frameworks through a highly successful three-year pilot program at the Washington School for Girls, Emerald Excellence, LLC delivers the exact tools our girls need to succeed. Through our multi-year leadership pipeline—Pearls by Choice (Grades 6 & 7) and The P3 Ecosystem (Grade 8)*—we use the virtues of a pearl to teach critical life lessons. We empower girls to know their worth, protect their peace, and step confidently into their future.
